Hiking in Großlobming
The Murtal region offers peace-seeking hikers varied tours, fantastic views and extraordinary places.
"Hiking, enjoying nature, relaxing" is the motto, because this is the only way to discover and experience the Murtal region. Here are our tips close to Hotel Hofwirt:
Hochalm/Maria Schnee
Tour data: 790 metres of cumulative elevation gain, 10.5 km and 4 hours
Difficulty: Medium difficulty
This hike at the eastern edge of the Seckau Alps terminates at the Pilgrimage Church of Maria Schnee and surely ranks among the most popular hiking destinations in the Murtal region. The Church at 1,822 metres above sea level impresses with its views of the Seetal Alps, the Styrian foothills and the Judenburg-Knittelfeld basin.
Hämmerkogel
Tour data: 1,372 metres of cumulative elevation gain, 16 km and 5 hours
Difficulty: Challenging tour
This tour starts at the parking lot at Zinkengraben shortly after Steinmühle Inn. Hikers follow the signposted trail no. 34 north, alternating between the forestry road and hiking trail all the way to the first trail crossing. From here, head towards Hämmerkogel reaching the saddle at the foot of the summit via Goldlacke. Cross the summit and descend via the south-eastern crest.
Seckau Literature Trail
Tour data: 5 metres of cumulative elevation gain, 0.5 km and 0.30 hours
Difficulty: Low difficulty
With its five stops leading into the market town of Seckau via a short circular route, this captivating themed trail (created by the network “Steirische Literaturpfade des Mittelalters“ - Styrian Literature Trails of the Middle Ages) introduces its audience to the unique Month’s Rules of Seckau – a small but interesting wealth of knowledge that once served to maintain one’s health in an easy yet effective way. The circular route following a clock-wise pattern leads along Gartenweg towards Marktgasse. The last station is located at the St. Luzia chapel. Tip: Combine your walk with a visit to Seckau Abbey.
